"OnlineAthens.com again partnered with local business Fantastic Fundraising LLC to raise money for charity through the sales of coupon books in June. The books were featured in the OnlineAthens Daily Deal program and the proceeds were donated to Chosen For Life Ministries.
The effort raised about $3,600 for the nonprofit, which is dedicated to equipping individuals to find their role in caring for orphaned and vulnerable children."

"The Downs are Chosen for Life foster-care advocates. Ashley Downs said moving from home to home can be stressful for the children. 'The average time someone spends in foster care is two years,' she said. 'We serve and pray for these children in their distress.'"
"There are an estimated 13,000 orphaned children in Georgia. Chosen for Life has developed a relationship with 24 areas churches and trained more than 600 individuals through foster-care support teams. Responsibilities include providing meals and supplies. More than 100 children have received a large duffel bag with their name on. A care kit also includes pajamas and a Bible, among other things. Downs said that previously some children were carrying their belongings in garbage bags."

"At the time, foster care was not a priority service area, but in 2014 the Millers felt convicted by an incident. They were asked for a recommendation of a Christian family that could immediately foster a child that was facing a crisis situation. 'We did not know anybody,' said Lisa Miller. 'It was like, ‘OK, God, you are speaking loud and clear.’ It was time for the church to wake up.'"
"They soon discovered 150 children in the Athens area who were in foster care. That was alarming number. Now it is twice that. Kelly Brooks said there is a need for more foster families. The state has been required sometimes to send children hundreds of miles away because a suitable home was unavailable in the immediate area."
