UPCOMING LEARNING TO CARE OPPORTUNITIES

Due to continued safety guidelines for preventing the spread of Covid-19, we will offer Learning to Care in a virtual format in July. We are planning several workshops in the month of July. “Trauma Response Tools” is our first. We will send updated information with additional workshops in the coming days.

“Trauma Response Tools” will take place Monday, July 20, 12:00–1:30 p.m. Taylor Mason, AMFT, APC, is a counselor with Bethel Haven and will be leading this Learning to Care on Coping with Trauma Reactions with the CID and ATIP Methods. Spots are limited. To register, sign up online. If you need in-person CEUs to complete requirements for licensure as a foster parent, we recommend that you check with your agency. This course is being hosted virtually, but is being taught live. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback.

Last minute opportunity! In addition, you can register for “Virtual Trauma 101: Understanding the Impact of Trauma on Children.” This course is hosted by Child Welfare Training Collaborative on Tuesday, June 30. This three hour course will provide participants with foundational knowledge about child trauma and child traumatic stress. Three types of child trauma are defined. The workshop focuses on the impact of complex trauma on behavior and development, and helps participants identify strategies for working with children who have experienced trauma. Register online.

SUPPORT FOR ADOPTING FAMILIES

Our Adoption Assistance Grant committee met this week. With joyful hearts we would like to share that we awarded grants to TEN families at the conclusion of our second quarter. We are so grateful for these families and their hearts for adoption, and it is our privilege to partner with these families by providing financial support.

Our third quarter of our Adoption Assistance Grant opens on July 1. In order to support future applicants and to continue removing financial barriers to adoption, we need your help! Our upcoming Help + Hope event is our primary fundraising source for our Adoption Assistance Grant fund. We currently need additional volunteers. On Saturday, August 29, our goal is that 75 volunteers will work together to complete three projects in our community. Each volunteer will make an incredible commitment, not only to serve our community, but also to raise $500. Every penny raised by volunteers will go directly into our Adoption Assistance Grant Fund to be used to help adopting families lower financial barriers to adoption.

Can you help?

Volunteer with us and help adopting families. To learn more about Help + Hope, please visit our webpage. To volunteer, simply fill out this simple form.

JUNE: NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH

National Reunification Month is celebrated in June of each year to recognize the people and efforts around the country that help families stay together. It is also a time to celebrate the families who have overcome obstacles to providing a safe and loving home for their children, and are able to reunify after their child was placed in the child welfare system.

At the heart of foster care, the desire is to reunify children with their families whenever it is safe to do so. The goal is to support biological families with the services and resources they need to make the necessary changes, while children remain in a safe environment. We celebrate when reunification is possible!

In part of our celebration of Reunification Month, we want to celebrate with both biological families and partnership parents (foster parents) who are working hard to support reunification plans. If you would like to submit a biological family or a partnership parent in our Share Something Good stories, please complete this form.
